... Greg and Thom Moore grew up in the same room of an old house in Altadena, CA., which had a Mickey Mouse lamp and a Scritti Politti poster. They have always enjoyed harmony singing, and have been known, on occasion, to sing in public. In 1986, Thom, along with Jon B. (the R+B singer), started the cotton-synth outfit Colorful Calliope, which broke up after seventy songs. He then went on to lead several groups (Orange Kate, Lord Escalator, the Plumps) to victory at a few coffee bars. Meanwhile, Greg, having resettled in Oakland, kept busy composing the songs that were to end up on his debut CD (Sandycoates- Noones and Marbles) released in 1995. Its single, "After the Beach", was spun at several barbeques that summer. After Thom joined his brother in northern California, they formed the punky folk group Thumb Of The Maid. Deaf Khan Records released a compact discollection of Thom's earlier recordings on 1996, called Spitting Songs and in 1998 the Thumb Of The Maid self titled debut. After coming home from a tour of the states, the rhythm section sold their gear and the Moore Brothers were born. Their first record for AG (2001's "Colossal Small") received critical comparisons to Of Montreal and Bee Thousand/Alien Lanes-era Guided by Voices Format: CD Album
